Google adds Now cards from 70 new Android apps

Google has extended its Now cards to 70 more Android apps to help you get relevant information at the right time. The Now cards for the Google app on Android provides added information in sync with other apps without you having to ask for it. From flight status to live match score or the latest piece of news, Now cards help you stay updated with the relevant information. Google notes in its blog some of the ways the Now cards work- getting breaking news about the recent Nepal earthquake from ABC News, Circa or feedly, updates about the food delivery that is just about to arrive at your doorstep, keeping track of fitness through Runkeeper, Jawbone or Adidas. Now cards also facilitate tap-and-pay with supported apps on the device. All that is needed is an update to the latest version of the Google app and the supported apps on your Android device to start getting relevant and timely information. Google plans to add more apps which will support the feature in future. Sou...

Password Alert: New security feature in Google Chrome protects you against hackers

New York: Google on Wednesday announced a free extension for its Chrome web browser that better protects Google accounts, including email, against online attackers trying to steal passwords and other personal information. The extension, called Password Alert, can be downloaded on Google Chrome and warns users before they enter account information on "phishing" pages, or imitation sites designed to steal passwords and access personal information, such as emails or online bank accounts. Millions of phishing emails and websites are sent every day, Google said. Nearly 2 percent of messages sent through Gmail, Google's email service, are designed to steal passwords. "Right now, it's left up to the user to decide whether or not to enter their password," said Drew Hintz, the lead engineer for Password Alert. "We expect users to know the difference between these sites, and that's an unreasonable request to make of users." The new extension, w...

Galaxy S6 Vs iPhone 6 Review: Samsung Uses Apple To Beat Apple

Welcome to the biggest smartphone battle of 2015.  Apple   AAPL   -1.13% will release an  iPhone 6S  in September, but the lion’s share of 2015 will be fought out between these two juggernauts and with it comes real symmetry. 2014 saw Apple size up to respond to the threat of Samsung’s larger Galaxies. Now 2015 sees Samsung redesign the Galaxy S6 to counter the threat of Apple’s resurgent iPhones. The result is a smartphone head-to-head which has never been closer at a time when the stakes have never been higher. Let’s get straight to it. Design And Build Quality: Class Leaders There’s only one place to begin when looking at Samsung’s new contender: design. Quite simply, Samsung has thrown almost every traditional design aspect of previous Galaxies away with the Galaxy S6 in an effort to create the same premium feel as the iPhone 6. The end result is both good and bad as well as being incredibly divisive. Galaxy S6 – 143.4 x 70.5 x 6.8 mm (5.64 x 2.77 ...

Whatsapp calling could rob telcos of STD revenue

The recent launch of voice calling on popular over-the-top  (OTT) messaging service app Whatsapp could hit the Indian mobile operators hard, denting their revenue from domestic long-distance operations, which make roughly a fifth of their topline. So far, the impact of free calling through OTT techniques like Viber or Skype has mainly been limited to international long distance which has led to a decline in their outgoing billion minutes. Since mobile operators don?t earn much from the highly-priced international long distance (ILD) services ? less than 10% of their mobile revenue comes from ILD operation while 18-20% of the revenue is due to domestic long distance or STD ? they have largely escaped an impact. However, it is the domestic long distance calls which are now under threat of being cannibalised through free calling apps launched by Whatsapp. Though free calling apps like Skype or Viber were always available for making domestic long distance calls, their usage, so f...
